An ongoing problem regularly confronted by most industries is that of wear. Wear takes many forms with the most common form being that of abrasion, particularly with equipment associated with the movement of earth and minerals. The result, of course, is equipment downtime, along with the related costs, so any materials that can aid its reduction will play an important part in reducing operating costs.
ProCus 227 is an alloy formulation that is high in chrome carbides to give very good resistance to abrasion. Importantly, it also provides resistance to moderate impact. Because of its low application temperature and good arc characteristics base metal dilution is kept to a minimum so the percentage of chrome carbides remaining in the deposited material, and not diluted into the base metal, is substantially higher than with those electrodes which require high application temperatures. This ultimately means increased service life for the material being hardsurfaced with ProCus 227.
Extremely importantly, the uniform dispersement of both primary and secondary carbides throughout the deposit ensures uniform resistance to the wear of the deposit through to the fusion line. This factor alone ensures that ProCus 227 will give increased service, for the appropriate applications, to the equipment to which it is applied.
